Oak Grove Mayor Adam T. Holland signed the official contract with Womack Construction of Harrisonburg, La. for the $770,000 project to rehabilitate the Oak Grove Water Treatment Plant that was funded by the 2018-2019 Louisiana Community Development Block Grant from Governor John Bel Edwards Office of Community Development.
Womack's bid of $858,531 came in over budget however, engineers were able to make cosmetic changes to the total project to reduce the price to fit the funding without jeopardizing the intended scope of work.
"This is not a step, it is a huge step to improve the quality of water for the citizens who use the Oak Grove Water System." Oak Grove Mayor Adam Holland said. "It has been my top priority since taking office in 2014 to provide our citizens with clean, clear, safe water and this project will check off many of the items on the list of necessary improvements that have been suggested by city engineers and consultants."
The scope of the project will be to replace the automatic valves, filters, softeners, pipes and other areas that are in need of repair to return the plant to its automatic operation capabilities as it was designed when it was constructed in 1998.
The project is for the treatment plant only and does not include the distribution system which is also in need of replacement according to town engineers. Town consultants and lobbyist are presently working on various funding sources to fund the $12 million water distribution system replacement project.
