Holy Rosary Institute Restorat

A Project Steeped in Louisiana History

We are thrilled to be involved in a project steeped in Louisiana history, focusing on the restoration of the Holy Rosary Institute established in 1913 in Lafayette, La. Initially serving as a school for young African American females, it gained renown for academic excellence, guided by the Sisters of the Holy Family from New Orleans and Divine World Missionary priests. After eighty years of service many factors led to the closure of one of the best college-preparatory schools in the South in 1993.

Progress stands at 25% completion with the ongoing interior demolition and debris removal from the 3-story structure, from roof to ground level. Efforts are concentrated on cleaning brick and eliminating graffiti. Skilled brick masons are diligently executing repairs and restoration on the exterior brickwork, a meticulous and time-consuming process requiring considerable expertise.

Plans are underway to pour foundation shafts to support a metal building intended to cover and provide temporary support to the existing masonry structure. Eventually, the temporary metal building and its components will be dismantled, relocated, and repurposed in a separate phase of the construction project.
